Last Thursday , Peter Pans and Patufets went on a field trip to Can Pou to learn about the three R’s (reduce, reuse and recycle). This activity is linked to our new Unit of Inquiry “Creando Cosas”.
In preparation for this field trip and to begin our new Unit of Inquiry and celebrate «Earth Day«, children listened to different stories about how to help taking care of the earth (taking care of animals and plants, reducing the amount of paper towels, using less water, saving electricity, recycling materials…) and completed this activity on Starfall website.
Once we got to Can Pou, kids were reminded about the importance of reducing the amount of garbage we produce and then they became “recycling heroes” and learned about how to recycle and reuse natural materials to create a den made out of wood sticks in the forest.
Then, they reused toilet paper rolls to create fantastic binoculars by painting them and attaching a string to be able to carry them around their neck.
After a very busy morning, it was time to eat lunch and make a quick visit to the farm animals (we also were able to feed some of them ) before getting back on the bus to head back to school.
It was a great day! Children proved to be risk-takers walking in the forest and crossing a river as well as inquirers and curious when asking questions. It was a fantastic exploration and discovery experience!
